Very old and used Tibetan silver Gau (also spelled Ghau or Gao) prayer box pendant adorned with greenish-blue small turquoises on the frontside. The backside is plain and made of copper. It can be opened, but it does not close securely at all, it's a rather visual closure and not functional. Both bales are only held by a silver wire that is attached on the gau. They are not soldered on the gau, or not anymore. All in all a decorative piece which we would not consider functional anymore. But nevertheless a collectable piece. This prayer box is used to hold and carry powerful amuletic objects. Used in Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan and Mongolia. A most beautiful but very used and not functional example of a Tibetan Gau.
